单位(unit)/可逆元(invertible element)是指环中乘法下的可逆元素。
单位(unit)一词在少数语境下可能也指单位元(unity/identity)。
定义
对环 [math]\displaystyle{ \langle R,+,\cdot \rangle }[/math] 及元素 [math]\displaystyle{ a\in R }[/math] ：
- 若 [math]\displaystyle{ (\exists b \in R)(a \cdot b=1_R) }[/math] ，称元素 [math]\displaystyle{ a }[/math] 是环 [math]\displaystyle{ R }[/math] 中的一个左单位(left unit)；
- 若 [math]\displaystyle{ (\exists b \in R)(b \cdot a=1_R) }[/math] ，称元素 [math]\displaystyle{ a }[/math] 是环 [math]\displaystyle{ R }[/math] 中的一个右单位(right unit)；
- 若 [math]\displaystyle{ a }[/math] 同时是环 [math]\displaystyle{ R }[/math] 中的左单位和右单位，称元素 [math]\displaystyle{ a }[/math] 是环 [math]\displaystyle{ R }[/math] 中的一个单位(unit)。也说双侧单位(two-sided unit)。
性质
以下条件等价：
- [math]\displaystyle{ a }[/math] 是 [math]\displaystyle{ R }[/math] 中的左（右）单位。
- 左（右）乘以 [math]\displaystyle{ a }[/math] 的运算 [math]\displaystyle{ x \mapsto ax }[/math]（[math]\displaystyle{ x \mapsto xa }[/math]） 是一个满射。
双侧单位两侧的乘法逆元相同且唯一。
环中所有的单位关于乘法构成群，称为单位群。
