剩余类(congruence class/residue class)指给定模数下与一个整数同余的全体整数构成的集合，也是整数集在同余关系这个等价关系下这个整数所代表的等价类。
定义
在整数集 [math]\displaystyle{ \mathbb{Z} }[/math] 中，对整数 [math]\displaystyle{ a \in \mathbb{Z} }[/math] 和正整数 [math]\displaystyle{ n }[/math] ，模 [math]\displaystyle{ n }[/math] 同余是一种等价关系，则在这一等价关系下的等价类，称为一个模 [math]\displaystyle{ n }[/math] 剩余类(congruence/residue class modulo n)，且以整数 [math]\displaystyle{ a }[/math] 为代表元等价类称为整数 [math]\displaystyle{ a }[/math] 的模 [math]\displaystyle{ n }[/math] 剩余类(congruence/residue class of a modulo n)，记作 [math]\displaystyle{ [a]_n }[/math] 或 [math]\displaystyle{ \bar{a}_n }[/math] 或 [math]\displaystyle{ a \bmod n }[/math] ，其中等价类的代表元(representative)整数 [math]\displaystyle{ a }[/math] 也称为剩余类的代表元(residue)。若上下文可以推出模数 [math]\displaystyle{ n }[/math] ，可简记作 [math]\displaystyle{ [a] }[/math] 或 [math]\displaystyle{ \bar{a} }[/math] 。
